There are nearly 50 unmarked veterans buried at Springdale Cemetery. With your help, we can provide these service members with the dignity of a grave marker. These markers will not only identify their grave locations but also honor their service.
The campaign is named in honor of Roy B. Tisdell, a Black World War I Army Captain from Peoria. He served in the 8th Regiment of Illinois/The 370th Infantry, known for their ferocious fighting at St. Mihiel, the Argonne Forest and the Meuse. Captain Tisdell served honorably and was awarded the French Croix de Guerre with Star (equivalent to the Medal of Honor) as well as the French Fourragère, WWI Victory medal and a Purple Heart. Later, one of Peoria’s two American Legion Posts was named in his honor.
Recently, the historical drum from the Roy B. Tisdell Post #537 marching band was beautifully restored by Baumgartner Restoration. You can view the two-part restoration series at the YouTube links below:

With a strong start to our campaign, we need your help to reach our $20,000 goal. Join us in the safeguarding of these veterans’ resting places and give them the honor they’ve earned by donating to the campaign.
